Zeeshan Siddique names two politicians in statement about father’s death

Zeeshan Siddique, former MLA and son of the late Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique, told the police on Tuesday (January 28, 2025) that the Bandra Slum Redevelopment Project (SRA) had a key role in his father’s death and named BJP leader Mohit Kamboj and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Anil Parab in his statement as well.

“Many builders were in regular contact with my father. My father had the habit of writing [in] a diary about his daily work. I learnt that around 5.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (on the day of the murder) my dad had a chat over WhatsApp with Mohit Kamboj (a BJP worker). Mohit wanted to meet my father in regards to a project in Bandra by Mundra Builders,” Mr. Zeeshan Siddique said in his statement to the police as per the PTI report.

Mr. Zeeshan Siddique’s statement is part of the chargesheet. He also mentioned a developer using abusive language against his father and claimed that a false case was registered against Siddique senior for his objection towards a redevelopment project.

Responding to Mr. Zeeshan Siddique’s claims, Mr. Kamboj said, “He is distorting the facts and the media is also twisting it. I spoke [to Baba Siddique] on the day of his death. We have been friends for 15 years and used to speak at least two to three days a week. Being the residents of Bandra and part of NDA, we spoke about political and non-political issues.”

Mr. Parab also dismissed Mr. Zeeshan Siddque’s claim. “All the political parties attended the SRA meeting and I was one among them,” he noted.

He also said that the chargesheet must be filed after investigating the case from the angle of Mr. Zeeshan Siddique’s statement as well. If the late leader’s son were still unsatisfied, then it was “his government”, he should get the police to investigate the case from all angles, he suggested. “Besides, the recording of the meeting is sent to the SRA officials, the minutes are available,” he added.
