The All-Women Police, Sembium, have apprehended three youth and three juveniles for allegedly committing penetrative sexual assault on three minor girls.
According to police sources, a Class 8 student went missing three days ago.
The police traced her to a government library building, where she was accompanied by two of her friends, aged 14 and 16.
Further investigation revealed that at least three teenagers lured the girls on a false promise and allegedly committed penetrative sexual assault on them. The police arrested Abishek, Yukesh, and Kalimullah, and remanded them to judicial custody. A case was booked under provisions of the POCSO Act. Three juveniles, who were also apprehended, have been lodged in the Government Observation Home for boys.
‘Prompt action’
Speaking about the case, Minister S.S. Sivasankar said all the accused were apprehended. Responding to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s criticism, he said the police have been taking prompt action under the DMK government, “unlike during the erstwhile AIADMK regime”.
The Minister said women’s safety was ensured in Tamil Nadu under the DMK government.
