The Ernakulam North police arrested two persons in connection with the alleged theft of 70 sovereigns of gold ornaments, ₹10,000, and documents from a locked house along Desabhimani Road at Kaloor.
The arrested are Mohidul Islam, 27, and Babu Sohara, 28, from Assam. They were nabbed from a deserted building near the second platform of the North railway station on Sunday (January 26). Around seven sovereigns and ₹13,000 were reportedly recovered from the arrested people.
The police were yet to track down the rest of the ornaments even as the accused allegedly gave conflicting statements. The accused were produced in court and remanded.
The alleged theft took place in the early hours of Friday (January 24). The house had remained locked since March 2024.
