‘Convert UAS into integrated agricultural university’

The Teachers and Employees’ Association of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, and the Alumni Association of the Agricultural University, Hebbal, have urged the State government to convert the UAS into an integrated agricultural university on the model of Mandya and Shivamogga agricultural universities.

At a press conference on Saturday, T.K. Prabhakar Shetty, member of the board of management of the university, said that since the State Cabinet had approved the establishment of the integrated agricultural university in Mandya, the UAS would be limited to Bengaluru and Chintamani regions only.

However, the committee headed by S. Rajendra Prasad on the establishment of an agricultural university in Mandya recommended that the UAS be converted into integrated an agricultural university like Shivamogga and Mandya agricultural universities. Therefore, he urged the government to convert the UAS into an integrated university and to bring Chitradurga district under it.

H.L. Harish, president of the alumni association, K.S. Rajashekarappa, president of the UAS teachers’ association, and others were present.
