Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy announced massive plans for the smooth conduct of the annual Brahmotsavam at the famous Srikalahastheeswara temple in Srikalahasti town, which coincides with the Maha Sivaratri festival.
Mr. Reddy conducted an elaborate review of the arrangements along with Minister for Revenue Anagani Satya Prasad, who is also the in-charge Minister of Tirupati district, Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Venkata Sudheer Reddy, Collector S. Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju, here on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, he announced that every devotee visiting the temple on the sacred occasion would be offered one free laddu. Similarly, female devotees will get a sacred gift set including a blouse piece, bangles, turmeric and ‘kumkum’ as a gift from goddess Gnana Prasunambika.
The government expects a huge footfall of 10 lakh devotees to the temple town during the 13-day event starting on February 24. Upon the request made by the MLA Sudheer Reddy, Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy agreed to provide free ‘darshan’ to the locals during the festival period.
Revenue Minister Prasad instructed the district and temple authorities to work in coordination to arrange toilets, drinking water facilities, additional queue lines, milk and biscuits to the waiting devotees.
Meanwhile, 1250 police personnel have been dispatched to Srikalahasti to provide security for the event, in the backdrop of the stampede witnessed in Tirupati ahead of ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’.
