Energy supply in Andhra Pradesh went up by 22.5% within a gap of four years, from 65,414 MU (million units) in FY2020 to 80,151 MU in FY2024, according to Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik.

Replying to a question raised by MP Parimal Nathwani in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Mr. Naik said the State’s energy supply in the first nine months of FY2025 has already touched 58,555 MU. The government also plans to increase India’s total installed generation capacity from all sources to 900 GW in 2031-32, he said.

“The government has transformed the country from power deficit to power sufficient in the last ten years. (The) present installed generation capacity of the country is 4,62,065 MW. The Government of India has addressed the critical issue of power deficiency by adding 2,30,050 MW of generation capacity since April 2014,” Mr. Naik said in a press release.

The installed generation capacity in 2031-32 is likely to be 900 GW, including capacity from conventional sources such as coal, lignite, etc., renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, pump storage projects (PSP) and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The Ministry of Power, in consultation with the States, has envisaged a plan to add thermal capacity of a minimum of 80,000 MW by 2031-32. Against this target, 28,020 MW of thermal capacity is already under construction and contracts for 19,200 MW of thermal capacity have been awarded in FY 2024-25, the Union Minister of State said.
