The third edition of ‘Paridrishya’, an international festival of short films and documentaries, got under way here on Saturday.
The two-day festival — organised by Mysuru Cinema Society (MCS) and Bharatiya Chitra Sadhana — was inaugurated at the Karnataka State Open University, by actor, activist and journalist Prakash Belawadi.
He said it was appreciable that the event had received institutional status and had grown in a short span. Mysuru, said Mr. Belavadi, was the home of great cinema for Karnataka and some of the greatest filmmakers of the State were nurtured in Mysuru.
The organisers said MCS was not only holding such film festivals but was also committed to nurturing future filmmakers by holding workshops on script writing, acting, cinematography etc.
The film festival has received tremendous response; while 150 films from 10 countries were submitted for selection and screening in the first edition, the second edition had 300 films. But the third edition of the festival has exceeded all expectations and it has received more than 3,000 entries from 109 countries, according to the organisers.
