There was commotion at the residence of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham at Kirlampudi in the early hours of Sunday when a youth gatecrashed into the premises on a tractor and damaged the former MP’s car and demolished the flexi banners there.

The police later arrested the accused, identified as Ganisetti Gangadhar (22), a native of Mangiturthi village of Pithapuram mandal. Mr. Padmanabham was present when the incident took place.

“Gangadhar gained entry into the residence of Mr. Padmanabham with his tractor and damaged the latter’s car. The accused also abused Mr. Padmanabham,” Jaggampeta Circle Inspector Y. Lakshmi Srinivas said in a release.

“The exact reason behind the attack is not known. A case has been registered and investigation is on. The accused has been arrested,” Mr. Srinivas said.

Mr. Padmanabham’s supporters and YSRCP leaders, including East Godavari incharge Ch. Venu Gopala Krishna and former Minister K. Kannababu, visited his residence and enquired about the incident. The YSRCP leaders alleged that the accused was an active member of the Jana Sena Party. The JSP, however, denied the charge.
