An Innovation and Incubation Centre to create awareness of the four-horned antelope and the smooth-coated otter was inaugurated here at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Denkanikottai.
The Centre set up under the aegis of the Forest Department, Hosur Division, seeks to create awareness of the two protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The four-horned Antelope and the Smooth-coated Otter are rare species found along the banks of river Cauvery and are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. The Centre seeks to act as an information centre on the two species, with the support of the Advanced Institute of Wildlife Conservation and Tamil Nadu Innovation and Initiatives.
Here at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, the Centre entails live-sized models of the four-horned antelope and smooth-coated otter with the objective of kindling curiosity among students and creating awareness on the conservation of these animals.
The Centre has been envisioned as a space for ecological education for the young and to generate wildlife awareness in their midst. According to the Department, it is the first such incubation centre for the four-horned antelope in the State. The Centre is thrown open for all students across the district to visit and equip themselves with information. Earlier, the Centre was inaugurated by the Wildlife Warden Bakan Jagdish Sudhakar.
