HYDERABAD
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has criticised the Centre for making only a nominal allocation of ₹574 crore for the Census in the budgetary proposals for 2025-26 against ₹8,754 crore proposed in 2019 and the delay in conducting the exercise delays the country’s growth.
In a statement, she said on Sunday that a roadmap to progress can’t be built on mere idealistic statements but requires solid data and surveys that define the true picture of the country as the progress of any nation is driven by proper data.
She sought to know from the Centre as to how the country’s progress would be planned without understanding the people and their socioeconomic status — data of the Census, including caste data. The Census is essential and mandatory for formulating progressive policies that enable inclusive development, she said.
