Mukkom sexual assault case: Hotel owner who is the prime suspect arrested from Thrissur

The police on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) arrested one of the three persons who were recently accused of making a rape attempt against a 24-year-old woman at Mambetta near Mukkom in Kozhikode, Kerala. The suspect, identified as Devadasan, was taken into custody from Thrissur district early in the morning.

The woman who jumped from the top floor of a building to escape from the alleged sexual assault had sustained grave injuries. She had been admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital following the incident.

According to police sources, the incident took place at a newly opened hotel on February 2. The woman, hailing from Payyannur, was one of the employees at the hotel. Three persons, including the hotel owner Devadasan, allegedly barged into her room when she was taking rest after work. She jumped from the building as the three were about to attack her with sexual intent, the police said.

The details of the incident came to light as the woman exchanged the videos of the alleged attack with the police and her family members. Her family members, who were reportedly aware of the previous incidents of such misbehaviours from the three suspects, also had given their statements to the police.

Suresh Babu, 46 and Riyas, 47, the two other suspects, have been booked in connection with the incident.

Police sources said a search was on for them with the support of the Kozhikode cyber cell.
