Nomadic convention, leather puppetry festival in Dharwad on Wednesday

Karnataka Vidyavardhakh Sangha and State Nomadic Shilyekyatar-Killekyatar Development Organisation will jointly organise a State-level convention of nomads and also leather puppetry festival on the sangha premises in Dharwad on Wednesday.

District in-charge Minister Santosh Lad will inaugurate the programme.

Chamarajnagar University Vice-Chancellor M.R. Gangadhar will release a book, Gombeatavayya.

Senior writer Veeranna Rajur will release another book, Na Kanda Nadoja.

Member of Kannada Development Authority Language Policy Committee Sannaveeranna Doddmani will deliver the keynote address.

Social thinker Laxman Bakkai will speak on government policies on Shillekyatar-Killekyatar.

Research scholar B.V. Shirur will preside over the convention.

Kallinath Swamiji from Bagalkot will grace the occasion.

This will be followed by three puppetry shows starting at noon. The shows are Vali and Sugreeva, Abhimanyu in the Mahabharat and Sita and Luv-Kush.

Sangha general Secretary Shankar Halgatthi told reporters that such events will help it to rejuvenate leather puppetry that is on the brink of extinction.

During the event, citizens and intellectuals will discuss issues related to children of nomads.

The recommendations and new policies will be submitted to the Chief Minister with an appeal to reserve funds for the community in the upcoming State Budget, Mr. Halagatthi said.
