Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (January 28, 2025) urged Indian industrial houses to create robust supply and value chains within the country, ensuring they remain resilient to global fluctuations.
“In today’s rapidly evolving global landscape, the challenges of the global supply chain are more apparent than ever. India can no longer rely on a fragmented or import-dependent supply chain. It is imperative to establish a robust and resilient supply and value chain that remains minimally impacted by global disruptions,” Mr. Modi said while inaugurating Utkarsh Odisha, a business summit to attract investment to Odisha.
“This poses a significant challenge for both the industry and the government, making it a shared responsibility. It is crucial to support MSMEs within the sector you are in, provide them handholding, and extend assistance to as many youth-led startups as possible,” the Prime Minister observed.
Stating that India was rapidly progressing towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, Mr. Modi said, “The country’s rapid progress cannot rely solely on the export of raw materials and therefore, we are changing the entire ecosystem and working with a new vision.”
“India was changing the trend of extracting minerals and sending them abroad for product manufacturing and value addition, only to have those products return to India. This trend is not acceptable. Similarly, India is also changing the trend of exporting seafood, subsequent processing in other countries and reaching market,” remarked the Prime Minister.
Eastern India’s potential
Mr. Modi reiterated that he believed eastern India would become a growth engine in the development of the country and Odisha would play a key role in this.
“Odisha used to be an important centre in South Eastern Asian trade and the ports were a gateway to India. There were huge industrial hubs, ports, trade hubs in eastern India and Odisha’s participation in this was remarkable,” PM remarked
Stating that Odisha was endowed with rich mineral resources and a long coastline, Mr. Modi said, “Numerous opportunities were opening up in this region, more than ever before since independence. For all the investors, now is the right time to invest in Odisha’s development journey. Investment would lead to new heights of success.”
“Odisha is truly outstanding, Odisha symbolises the optimism and originality of new India, Odisha is a land of opportunities, and the people here have always shown a passion to outperform,” said Mr. Modi, urging industry to explore opportunities in the eastern Indian State.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said Odisha was creating a conducive atmosphere for investors to come to the State, invest and stay invested for a long time.
Industry leaders Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sajjan Jindal, Naveen Jindal, Karan Adani, Anil Agarwal, and T.V. Narendran were present on the occasion. Numerous memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed during the event.
