The stage is set for this year’s edition of Tour of Thekkady, a premier cycling event that takes riders through Kerala’s breathtaking landscapes. Organised by KEG Bikers, a Kottayam-based cycling group, in collaboration with the State Tourism Department, the event is scheduled for March 8, with registrations open until February 12.
The Gran Fondo cycling event kicks off from the backwaters of Kottayam, winding through the lush plantations and estates on the high ranges before culminating at Thekkady, a popular tourist destination. “The route is designed to offer cyclists a mix of endurance and visual delight, covering some of Kerala’s most stunning terrains,” said James K.V., ride director of the event.
Riders will pass through key locations such as Ettumanoor, Pala, and Muttom, before crossing the Kulamavu and Idukki Dams. The journey continues through Kattappana to reach Thekkady via Kumily. Over the years, The Tour of Thekkady has attracted cyclists from across the globe.
The competition features four race categories with designated time limits: Team Race – teams of four compete for the best collective time; Men-Elite – open to male cyclists above 18 years; Men-Masters – for participants aged 40 and above; Women’s Race – open to women cyclists above 18 years.
