The government is likely to hold a special session of the Assembly on February 7 to discuss the outcome of the Comprehensive Household Survey conducted to determine the population of various segments.
The report of the household survey, which is popularly being mentioned as the Caste survey, will be submitted to the government on February 2. The report is likely to be placed before the Cabinet on February 5 for the approval before being placed in the Assembly. However, officials are tight-lipped on the special session of the Assembly. The Assembly Secretariat too has not confirmed the date so far. Meanwhile, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the caste census report would be submitted to the Cabinet on February 5 and the reservations to Backward Classes would be decided for the local body polls.
In an informal chat with the reporters at the party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan, he said the Cabinet will discuss the report and take a decision on the enhancement of reservation to BCs before conducting the local body polls. He said the opposition parties had tried their best to create hurdles in the caste survey. Mr. Goud indicated that the local polls would be held only after the BC reservations issue is finalised. He said the Congress was fully geared up for the local polls. In the Greater Hyderabad region, where it has not won any MLA seat in the last Assembly elections, he said the party would be strengthened.
He justified Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy holding review meetings at places other than the Secretariat. He said the Chief Minister was conducting meetings depending on the logistics. “Unlike the BRS rule, our Chief Minister is reviewing with officials in the Secretariat and meeting people in his office regularly,” he said.
Responding to BJP Corporators protests on Thursday, he hit out at the Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay questioning BJP’s contribution to Hyderabad city. He alleged that the Union Ministers failed to get any development funds for Hyderabad. He also said the Congress would announce the names of candidates for the MLC elections in a few days.
