The Telangana government has identified Manjeera reservoir, Pakhal Lake, Kinnerasani reservoir, Ramappa Lake and Ameenpur Lake as wetlands, about which a notification would soon be released, Minister for Environment and Forests Konda Surekha said on Saturday.
Speaking on the eve of World Wetlands Day, which falls on February 2, Ms. Surekha said that wetlands across Telangana are being identified and a comprehensive action plan is being prepared for their conservation. The eco-tourism policy to be formulated by the government will accord priority to wetland sites, she said.
She also spoke about the significance of wetlands for biodiversity and water conservation, and informed that all the countries are conducting awareness programmes on the theme ‘Wetlands for Future’.
