Tribal woman found dead in Yelagiri Hills

A 73-year-old woman was found dead in her house at Muthanoor village in Yelagiri Hills near Jolarpet town in Tirupattur on Wednesday.

Police said the deceased was identified as C. Kantha, an agricultural labourer. After her husband  S. Pachaiappan died in 2017, Kantha was living alone. She has three sons, who were living in neighbouring Athanavur village in the hills.

Her son, P. Suresh, 49 , a farmer, used to visit his mother regularly. Kantha also used to go to her son’s farmland to oversee the farm work in the paddy field and spend time there till the evening.

As she did not come to his house, Suresh went to his mother’s house, where he found her lying in a pool of blood with head injuries. Hearing his cry, neighbours rushed to the house and informed the police.

Missing jewellery

Initial inquiry revealed that five sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and a television set were missing from the house.

The body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Vellore for a postmortem.

Special teams have been formed to probe the case.
