Union Budget allots ₹7,564 crore for railway projects in Karnataka

The Union Budget for 2025-26 has laid a railway roadmap for Karnataka by allotting ₹7,564 crore, including 15 projects connecting intra-State and inter-State railway stations. The State was allocated ₹7,559 crore in 2024-25.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pegged the Indian Railway budget at ₹2.55 lakh crore against ₹2.62 lakh crore last year.

Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna told reporters that the suburban railway has been allocated ₹350 crore in 2025-26 and the same amount was released in 2024-25. The Budget has allocated funds for extension of railway lines, electrification of lines, overbridges, under bridges, and many other railway works in Karnataka, Mr. Somanna said.

In the overall railway budget, he said ₹1,16,500 crore has been allocated for railway safety, ₹12,000 crore for providing passenger facilities and construction/upgrade of many stations across the country. Mr. Somanna said funds would be utilised for several projects which have not been completed for several years in Karnataka.

The funds sanctioned only for railway line projects in Karnataka are:

Gadag-Wadi (₹549.45 crore); Tumakuru-Chitradruga-Davangere (₹549.45 crore); Rayadurg-Tumakuru via Kalyandurg (₹434.85) crore; Bagalkot-Kudachi ₹(428.1 crore); Hosapete-Hubballi-Londa-Tinaighat-Vasco-de-Gama (₹413.73 crore); Hotgi-Kudgi-Gadag (₹401.15 crore); Bengaluru-Whitefield-Bengaluru City-KR Puram quadrupling (₹357.6 crore); Pune-Miraj-Londa (₹312.9 crore); Bayappanahalli-Hosur (₹223.5 crore); Munirabad-Mahabubnagar (₹214.05 crore); Yeshwantpur-Channasandra (₹178.8 crore); Toranagallu-Ranjitpura (₹104.47 crore); Daund-Kalaburagi doubling and Pune Guntkal electrification (₹84.39 crore); Kadur-Chikkamagaluru-Sakleshpur (₹78.4 crore), and Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur (₹64.05 crore).
