The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) against the “violence and irregularities” allegedly being committed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the ongoing municipal byelections.
A delegation, comprising MLC Lella Appi Reddy, Vijayawada Central constituency incharge Malladi Vishnu, NTR district party president Devineni Avinash, State secretary Ankamreddy Narayanamurthy, Vijayawada Mayor Bhagyalakshmi, Guntur Mayor Kavati Manohar, and party spokesperson Kakumanu Rajasekhar submitted a memorandum to the SEC on Tuesday, highlighting the “law and order breakdown” and the “misuse of power” by the ruling alliance.
Speaking to the media later, Mr. Vishnu criticised the coalition government for “using unethical means to gain power.”
“The TDP-backed goons are attacking the YSRCP corporators and councillors across the State, intimidating those who refuse to succumb to their pressures, and resorting to kidnappings,” he said. He further accused the police of siding with the ruling party instead of ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
Citing an incident in Tirupati, Mr. Vishnu said a bus carrying the YSRCP corporators was attacked and vandalised. “The TDP supporters kidnapped four corporators,” he alleged, adding that MLC Sipai Subrahmanyam had been abducted. “Looking at these incidents, one wonders if we are in Andhra Pradesh or Bihar,” he said.
