Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone, needing just 97 runs to become the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. The talented left-hander has the opportunity to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing, 49-year-old record when India takes on England in the second Test at Edgbaston, starting on July 2nd.

Jaiswal’s consistency has been a major positive for India, especially during this period of transition in Test cricket. He recently demonstrated his ability with a superb century in the first Test at Headingley, although his efforts weren't enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting England a challenging target of 371 runs, India was undone by impressive innings from Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, which gave England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Jaiswal’s individual form remains a key source of hope for India as they look to bounce back strongly at Edgbaston. In his 20 Tests so far, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in his 23rd Test back in 1976. Gavaskar further cemented his place in cricketing history by becoming the first player to score 10,000 Test runs. Following Gavaskar on this list are Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who both reached the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant strokeplay and composed approach, Jaiswal has a golden opportunity to not only join these legends but also surpass them, providing India with a significant boost in what is a must-win Test match.
